Results for the first races of the 2022 season
Saundersfoot Sailing Club held it first dinghy race of its warm-up series on Sunday 24th April. After much disruption to the sailing program in previous years due to Covid it was a great to get the sailing season of to a good start.
The forecast was borderline for a while with fresh easterlies, but predicted to drop over the day so Keith, the race officer gave the green flag for racing to go ahead.
Three sailors took to the water for the mid-day start, Paul Griffiths in a Solution, Dave Plester in a Solo, and Kevin Upstill in a Solution.
Race 1 saw 2 boats pull out a good lead in tricky conditions with various wind direction changes and some strong gust blowing through the bay.
Race 2, The wind had moved further round to the North, so a new course was laid. The second race also saw 2 boats pull out a good lead with a tight race between them until the finish line.
Keith had the pleasure of giving the clubs new Rigiflex safety boat its first official outing, reporting that it handles well in the conditions and looking very smart.
Over the last year the Saundersfoot Sailing Club has seen the club house in the harbour undergo a well-deserved refurbishment. The facilities offered to club members are now much improved with good changing facilities, a welcoming bar, lounge, and well-equipped stores. Saundersfoot harbour has also just completed a couple of years of redevelopment work with new shops, restaurants and sailing facilities, so the harbour is now a thriving location to spend some quality leisure time.
The club always welcomes new members and is holding a ‘Try Sailing Day’ on the Saturday 21st May so why not come down to the club and have a bit of fun on the water.
