SSC weekly news

Sunday 25th January 2015

If you have already renewed your membership thank you. If you haven’t done so yet please do so soon. If you get your application in this week you get a £5.00 voucher to spend in the bar or on merchandise. Fee income at the beginning of the season is vital when it comes to making decisions about equipment for the new season, never mind the running costs of the club house that are year round.

This month the committee has divided into two groups - the house subcommittee and the sailing sub-committee. We are already well advanced with the race programme and preparations for Coppet week. I’m delighted that St Brides Spa Hotel have once again agreed to be our main sponsor. There will shortly be a press release (Tenby observer) heralding their support for Coppett week. Friday evening is club night throughout the year. The numbers attending there are often very small. Would it encourage you to come if the clubhouse was open at 7 or 7.30 rather than 8.30? I’m determined to encourage more support for the club evening. With this in mind the following events are planned;

6 February clubhouse opening at 7.30 PM.

The big screen will be switched on for the six nations Wales V England match that is due to kickoff at 8.05 PM. The bar will be open throughout the match. Sausages and chips will be available at halftime. Some idea of numbers would be helpful for catering. There will be meat free sausages available.

6 March clubhouse opening at 7.30 PM.

Curry night (vegetarian option) to be followed at 9.00 PM with an eagerly awaited talk by Mark Attwell - Captain Wisemans Bridge Rowers. Mark will talk to us about the Celtic challenge (a roller-coaster ride across the Irish Sea that will have you gripping your seats)

3rd of April club house opening at 7.30 PM

traditionally there has been a preseason get together that was rather grandly described as “the fitting out supper”. This is to be a relaxed affair with a welcome from our dinghy captain. Paul is shy and retiring so you may need to give him some encouragement! More details to follow.

1st May Race Night.

Our ever popular horse racing evening with new races for this year. If you haven’t been before come and join Honest Ivan and his bookies runners on the rails. Toppers and fancy bonnets are optional. More details to follow.
