Newsletter 12th November 2017

Sunday 12th November 2017

Even though sailing was cancelled this week due to the wet and windy weather, there is still plenty going on down at SSC. Saturday hosted the annual SSC Prize Evening. Congratulations go to Paul and Julia, Harry and Steve, Keith, Rosie, Simon T, James H, Lloyd, James R, Dave, Hywel, Jenny, Ben, Sam and Tom O who all won prizes.

However the big prizes went to:

Silver fleet
3rd - Harry and Steve
2nd - Lloyd
1st - Rosie

Gold fleet
3rd - James H
2nd - Paul and Julia
1st - Simon T

With Clubman of the Year going to Tom Owen for all the work he does behind the scenes keeping the club ship-shape.

A huge thank you was extended to Maurice who has done a brilliant job sorting the results this year, but was unable to attend due to overseas work commitments.
On Saturday, several ladies from WBRC went to Towy to take part in the Welsh sculling trials. Well done to all who took part and especially to Sparker, who qualified for the Welsh squad. The Saundersfoot Strollers were also back for round two of their erg sessions this week.
This year, a choir from WBRC will perform in the Carols on the Decking once again, so Nikki is busy recruiting some great singing voices from within the club to impress the audience with their vocal talent. This event is hosted to raise money in aid of some great charities (more details to follow). All of the acts will be performing on the 21st December, starting at 6.30.
The Saundersfoot sailing community were very sorry to hear about the recent loss of Jeff Cooper of Blithfield Sailing Club, a Coppet Week contender for the last 40 years. Our thoughts are with Jeff’s wife, Kate, their three children and all of Jeff’s family at this sad time.
Finally, we end on the good news that Wisemans Bridge’s very own Simon Collings has been nominated for Club Organiser of the Year at this year’s Pembrokeshire Sports Awards. Very well done Simon and good luck in the final!
The final two races of this year begin at 10.00 on 26th November, preceding the AGM which is set to start at 1.00. See you there!
